My Story

We did it! CV-19 put our challenge on hold but we finally completed our challenge. We are so grateful for everyone who has sponsored us.

Mike and I love the outdoors, especially snow and the mountains and we are very slowly watching the climate crisis change these sensitive environments and those back home. Over the past 10 years we've seen it all: retreating glaciers, dangerous storm cycles, erratic temperatures - all of these indicate in no uncertain terms that the global temperature is warming. A stable temperature is vital for all forms of life. A rise above 2 degrees will result in ecocide.

The climate crisis is affecting everyone worldwide so we want to raise money to help an organisation lobbying for change at the highest level. We're raising money for Protect Our Winters UK - they are a small charity, mostly volunteers who need income to lobby UK Governments to take positive action on climate change. Scotland is hosting the UN Climate Summit in 2020 - so now is the best time to help give POW UK the platform it urgently deserves.

From November until March we are walking the height of Everest using our localish hills in Somerset and Wales - a total of 8,848m to hike up. If we are lucky, some of these walks might involve a snowboard back down - fingers crossed! Of course we both work full time so this is going to be really hard to fit this into our lives.

Please give what you can – all donations of any size will make a difference. POW UK is mostly volunteers with only one paid staff member, so anything you give will be used directly to ask governments to transition to a carbon neutral society.
